A BROAD-SPECTRUM MICROBICIDE CONCENTRATE

  • DESCRIPTION
TKC-605 is microbicide concentrate that is used as a germicide, algaecide, and deodorant in liquid and powder formulations. It is a special blend of alkly benzyl dimethylammonium chlorides that provides high microbicidal activity in hard water.

  • PURPOSE
TKC-605 are suggested for use as the active microbicidal ingredient in
˙Disinfectants (for homes, hospitals, institutions, etc.)
˙Cleaner-sanitizers (including those for use in food processing)
˙Algaecides (for swimming pools and industrial water systems)
Aqueous solutions containing up to 300 ppm of the TKC-605 active ingredients are allowed for use as sanitizers for food-processing equipment and utensils under section 178.1010 (Sanitizing solutions) of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration Regulations.

  • ADVANTAGES
Algae and slime-forming bacteria and fungi can cause the fouling of cooling towers, heat exchangers, and other. parts of industrial recirculating cooling water systems. Such fouling can interfere with the water flow and reduce the cooling efficiency of the systems. Algae also may grow in swimming pools and water reservoirs, producing slime that clings to walls and slime that floats in and discolors the water. TKC-605 however, inhibits the growth of algae, bacteria, and fungi. Thus, it is recommended for treatment of cooling towers, swimming pools, and industrial water systems.

  • COOLING TOWERS
If the cooling tower system is badly fouled, it should be cleaned to remove algal growth, slime, and other deposits before treatment is begun. If the system has only a slight amount of visible algae or slime, it should be treated initially with 60 to 80 g of active TKC-605 per cubic metre of water in the system. Repeat the initial dosage until control is evident. Then treat the system with 20 to 50 g of active TKC-605 per cubic metre of water every 2 to 5 days, or as needed to maintain control. If algae or slime growth becomes vixible, repeat the initial dose of 60 to 80 g of active TKC-605 cubic metre of water, and then resume the maintenance dosage. The algaecide-slimicide should be added to the cooling tower sump, or other point where it will be evenly distributed to the system.

  • SWIMMING POOLS
Swimming poois with heavy growths of alge should be drained and thoroughly cleaned prior to starting treatment with algaecide. For pools having just slightly visible algae growth, and 10 g of active TKC-605 per cubic metre of water. After the algae are killed, remove -the algal debris by cleaning the pool, If necessary ,drain and. refull. For treatment of a freshly cleaned and filled pool, add 4 g of active TKC-605 per cubic metre of water. After the algae are killed, remove the algal debris by cleaning the pool. If necessary, drain and refill. For treatment of a freshly cleaned and filled pool, add 4 g of active TKC/605 per cubic metre of water. Subsequent dosages should. be added every 5 to 7 days to maintain the concentration of active TKC-605 between 6 and 8 mg/L (6-8 ppm).

  •  SAFETY INFORMATION
TKC-605 is only moderately toxic by ingestion in single doses, but concentrated solutions may irritate the skin or cause eye damage. Therefore the eyes and skin of workmen handling the product should be properly protected and contamination of food should be avoided.
Like other quaternaries, TKC-605 toxic to fish, and it should not be added directly to fish-bearing waters. However, since the product is cationic (positively charged) it is adsorbed rapidly by particulate matter (dirt, fibers, sand, clay, etc.), which is normally anionic (negatively charged). Therefore TKC-605 will generally be removed completely by.normal primary wastewater treatment methods.
